1-Phenylpropane

1-Phenylpropane, also known as ethylbenzene, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C8H10. It is a simple aromatic hydrocarbon consisting of a phenyl group (C6H5) attached to a propane chain (C3H7). Ethylbenzene is a colorless liquid with a sweet, gasoline-like odor and is considered one of the key chemicals in the production of styrene, a fundamental compound in the plastics industry.

  • Modelling fluid phase equilibria in the binary system trifluoromethane + 1-phenylpropane
This literature review presents a modeling study on the high-pressure phase behavior of the binary system trifluoromethane (R23) + 1-phenylpropane, which is relevant for refrigeration applications involving refrigerant-lubricant mixtures. Using three cubic equations of state—GEOS, SRK, and PR—coupled with van der Waals mixing rules in a semi-predictive approach, the authors optimized unique sets of binary interaction parameters based on experimental isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium data between 300–330 K. The models successfully predicted the system’s complex phase behavior across a temperature range of 250–400 K and pressures up to 12 MPa, including vapor-liquid, liquid-liquid, and vapor-liquid-liquid equilibria, as well as critical lines and critical endpoints. The calculated results showed good agreement with experimental data and confirmed a Type IIIm phase behavior topology, demonstrating the capability of simple cubic EoSs to accurately represent asymmetric, highly non-ideal systems.
